Welcome to my new website!
The last blog on my old website was about the pandemic.
Me and my wife came back from Malta February 2020 because Mr. Danny Moran of The Henry V Moran Foundation in The Philippines approached me if I could help them to structure their Futsal program.
We were supposed to fly to The Philippines April 10th 2020 but by that time the borders were closed and we got stuck in The Netherlands.
Looking back it seems that it was bound to happen as my mother-in-law’s health was declining and we were able to take care of her until she unfortunately died in January 2021.
After that period I already started to write the Futsal level 1 and 2 courses for The Philippines so that I could easily start whenever we could fly.
Finally on March 22 2022 we were able to fly to The Philippines and I could start focusing on three topics:
* The Liga Eskwela: a Futsal competion for elementary public schools where underprivileged children up to 18 years old can start to enjoy playing Futsal as all public schools have a basketball court.
At the moment we have already 30.000 kids playing Futsal around The Philippines!
* The Henry V Moran Futsal Academy: a Sports Academy College program where 14 girls have a full scholarship for two years. They train Futsal three times a week, have fitness training as well and of course academics. After they graduate we connect them to Universities where they can continue playing Futsal.
We call them “The Cara Mia girls” as they are sponsored by The Henry V Moran Foundation and the “Cara Mia” Cakes and Gelato shops from Mr. Moran 😃
* The High 5 Futsal League for both Men and Women: I set up the competition in Metro Manila and at the moment we have 12 Women’s and 8 Men’s Teams participating.
Resulting from this league I appointed Region Coaches who can set up elsewhere in The Philippines the same program. At the moment we have Region Officers in Cebu, Cagayan de Oro an Pangasinan and also that is still growing.
From The High 5 Futsal League I selected the National Women’s Futsal Team and we played our first international game in October 2022 against Guam. We lost and we won one game but it was a good starting point.
In 2023 we continued above mentioned topics and in November we had a Three Nation Tournament with Indonesia and New Zealand. We lost from Indonesia but they are already full pro’s but we won from New Zealand although everyone thought we couldn’t beat them as they are tall and strong.
Early this year we heard that the FIFA announced the first ever Women’s Futsal World Cup and we started dreaming how it would be if we could host it here in The Philippines and guess what…. We got it!
Next year from November 21 – December 7 we hope to leave a Futsal legacy for The Philippines but as the sport is rapidly developing I have no doubt we will.
