At the moment we are competing in de AFF Women’s Futsal Championship 2024 here in Manila in The Philippines with Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. This tournament is our first big tournament in preparation for the FIFA Womens Futsal Worldcup 2025 and after three days I can make a mid-term review.
The difference between a topranked country like Thailand and us is not about tactics but about having players who are only concentrating on Futsal. A proper competition is of vital importance; we created the women’s league two years ago but it has to be further developed throughout the whole Philippines.
Also I selected a few players of the pre-selection from Football but they show that Futsal is a totally different sport. I hope they can race to catch up with the Futsal players in the upcoming year.
Of course I also need the PFF for this and hopefully they will match the calendar so that these players can fully concentrate on Futsal.
Now the tournament itself: our first game against Myanmar was a deserved 2-2 draw. We could have won in the last 30 seconds but unfortunately we missed the 10 meter kick.
The second game against Thailand showed us where we have to work on; increase the speed of playing, stamina and the practised rotations. But of course Thailand plays already many years and therefore the 7-0 was a deserved result, although we also had some chances and 10-3 could also have been the end result to be honest.
